Meet Dr. Robert Kozol...
Department
of Surgery
Professor and Chairman in Surgery
My entire education was in Syracuse, New York. Syracuse University and Upstate Medical Center for medical school and Surgical Residency. Once in medical school, I knew from day one that I
wanted to be a surgeon. This was from influence as a volunteer and an OR orderly during college. In the middle of residency, I did a research fellowship in gastric physiology. GI and endocrine
have been interests of mine. I selected an academic career and I have not regretted it for one moment. I have always been involved in surgical education on all levels.
My first faculty position was at UConn from 1985 through 1988. It was an exciting time, working under Drs. Jim Foster and Peter Deckers, both well respected surgical educators. From 1988 through
1999 I was on the faculty at Wayne State University and I served as Chief of Surgery at the Detroit VA. I jumped on the laparoscopic bandwagon early on. It has been fun.

For six years, I coached little league baseball, coaching all three of my sons. (Sorry Bosox, I am a Yankee fan). In my spare time, I read historical fiction and fiction from other
cultures.
As Professor and Chairman in Surgery, it is my pleasure to help students prepare for a career in surgery. |
