Coast to Coast Bike Trip
Each
summer since 2005, four rising second year medical students
bicycle from San Francisco to the Connecticut shore, riding
nearly eighty miles each day. Their goal is to raise thousands
of dollars for Lea’s Foundation. This organization is based
in the Hartford area and supports research in leukemia and
other blood cancers. We invite you to learn more about this
incredible journey from student participants below.
“Lea’s Foundation provided me an opportunity to combine
my passion for activity with my desire to help a good cause.
Coast to Coast gave me an adventure I won’t soon forget,
and the skills I gained while fundraising, camping, and
biking will undoubtedly help me in the future.” — Katherine
Farmer, Class of 2012
“The coast to coast trip is a win-win, once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity. As riders, our primary goal is to raise as
much money as possible for one of Connecticut's best foundations
for cancer research. All of our fund raising efforts help
to support research for Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin's Lymphoma
and Myeloma through Lea's Foundation. In return, we get
to spend our summer riding across one of the most beautiful
countries in the world. Instead of spending the summer inside
doing research, we get to ride to new places every day,
meeting new people, and seeing new things all while raising
more money for Lea's Foundation. Testing yourself physically
and mentally on this ride also provides a great talking
point for residency interviews down the road. For anyone
with a sense of adventure, this trip is really a dream come
true.” — James Alex, Class of 2014
